Here's why we are stressing the need for Waste Management
Imagine what if 71% of the water surface and 21% of the land surface were covered with waste? Also, imagine what if you were to present the same to your future generations. Is that what they deserve!? The disposal of waste on land causes land pollution; when burnt, it creates air pollution; and when dumped in landfills, it pollutes the surface and groundwater. So, what exactly is the solution to this serious issue? Keep reading!
The 3R’s
Reduce
The absolute best way to handle waste, both economically and environmentally, is to avoid creating it in the first place. Below are a few tips that’ll help you prevent waste creation.
  • Let’s begin in the kitchen.
According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), food makes up the largest component of municipal solid waste sent to landfills, according to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). To reduce household waste, you should reduce and divert food scraps! Investing in a good waste disposer is smart as the waste gets ground and is flushed down the sewage system.
  • Carry your own bag, bottle, and cutlery
Carrying these can help reduce a lot of paper and plastic waste. These seemingly small acts make big impacts.
Reuse
Swap paper towels and tissues with handkerchiefs, washcloths, cloth napkins, towels, or cleaning rags when cleaning your house. Toss them in the laundry and reuse them.
Recycle
  • The environment benefits (in several ways) when old things are transformed into something new.
  • There is no waste of materials or natural resources.
  • It also means less trash ends up in landfills.
  • Further, it benefits wildlife as well.
Bottom line
The accumulation of solid waste promotes the breeding of rats, flies, and mosquitoes, spreading disease. Proper waste management is beneficial to local communities in several ways. In addition to minimizing the negative impact of the above problems, it can also be a tool for change.
